Juan Cabreros Laya was a Pangasinan-born writer and educator whose career spanned teaching, journalism and major roles in the Philippine public school system. A Commonwealth Literary Award winner and early member of the U.P. Writers’ Club, he helped shape both English and Tagalog literary traditions before his untimely death in 1952.12
