The Volcano by Bienvenido N. Santos
Hurry up, only 1 item left in stock.
Bienvenido N. Santos, a Filipino writer who spent the war years exiled in the United States with the Philippine government-in-exile, set this novel among an American missionary family in the foothills of Mount Mayon in Albay, where Dr. Hunter runs a mission hospital as the family navigates prewar Philippine life and the Japanese occupation. Written under a Rockefeller grant and Guggenheim fellowship, it was one of Santos's first two novels, both published in Manila in 1965, the year he won the Philippine Republic Cultural Heritage Award for Literature. Phoenix Publishing House released the first edition in 1965; New Day Publishers later reissued the book.
