When Tonton Young was born into this world, he was probably laughing instead of crying. For all through his young life, Tonton has filled other people's lives with laughter through his comic strip "Pupung" that first appeared in the Times Journal before moving on to the Manila Bulletin and went big with comic addicts.
A commerce graduate and an avid basketball fan, Tonton never really thought he'd be a cartoonist someday. Circumstances led him to pick up his versatile pen again and resume a childhood interest. While attending to his mom who needed special care, he decided to do cartoons which did not require him to work on an eight-hour basis.
Beneath those spectacles and boyish looks lie loads of talent. Young's art is really a commentary on the Pinoy and his homespun manner, best expressed in Filipino dialogue. A lover of children as his works show, a part of Tonton will forever stay young.
Tonton Young is now based in the USA residing with his wife, Libay, and daughter, Ally. He is currently teaching 'cartooning' in Art School for Kids and doing editorial cartoons and comic strips for several Filipino newspapers in New Jersey and California.
