Stories Rarely Told by Augusto de Viana
Hurry up, only 1 item left in stock.
This is a collection of narrative stories and essays on Philippine history about events in the late 19th to the 20th centuries. Some of the stories are derived from oral history written down for the first time and preserved to be read by future generations. It also opens unintended controversies about how things happened such as how the Katipunan was betrayed or how General Antonio Luna was assassinated or Emilio Aguinaldo defended his actions during the Philippine Revolution. The stories can be checked with the established version for the readers comparison. Though intended as light historical reading, the book provides a down-to-earth view of the past and how it is appreciated by the Filipinos of today.
"This book is a polyphonic orchestra, not the kind you can usually read in the textbooks in History-monophonic and monotonic because the only voice you hear is the authors voice. It only sounds like a clerk of court reading the proceedings. This book is different. You hear lots of voices in a narrative concert, and the author is the conductor of the polyphony. The conceit is from Literature." -Florentino H. Hornedo, Ph.D. From the Foreword
