South to Bataan, North to Mukden: The Prison Diary of Brigadier General W. E. Brougher
Hurry up, only 1 item left in stock.
Brigadier General William Edward Brougher commanded the 11th Division of the Philippine Army during the defense of Bataan, and secretly kept a diary through more than four years of Japanese captivity, writing on thin sheets he rolled up and hid inside bamboo poles. His frank, day-by-day entries record camp life at Karenko in Taiwan and later Mukden in Manchuria, where he was held alongside senior American, British, and Dutch officers, offering a close view of both wartime deprivation and interallied relations among the prisoners. D. Clayton James edited the diary, with a foreword by General Harold K. Johnson, and the University of Georgia Press published the book in 1971.
