Nothing but Praise by Henry G. Lee
Out of stock
1st Lieutenant Henry G. Lee, a Pomona College graduate posted to the Philippines with the 31st Infantry Regiment, survived the Bataan Death March and wrote poetry in a secret notebook during his imprisonment at Cabanatuan, documenting the march and camp life with unusual honesty and craft. Before being shipped toward Japan aboard the hell ship Oryoku Maru in December 1944, Lee buried the notebook under his barracks; he survived that ship's sinking only to die weeks later when a second transport, the Enoura Maru, was sunk off Formosa. Rangers raiding Cabanatuan recovered his notebook after liberation, and Lee's parents published his poems and letters as Nothing But Praise in 1948, in tribute to their son.
