In his original preface to Muslims in the Philippines in 1970, Cesar Adib Majul highlights the various stages of history of the Muslim peoples. His message is directed toward them, and ultimately all of us at present who share the responsibility for what he endeavored the book to achieve, specifically so that “a future generation of Filipinos would consider the struggle of the Muslim South as part of the struggle of the entire nation.” This reprinted edition thus serves to put necessary focus not merely on a people’s history in isolation, but on one that is embedded within the history of the larger national community.
