Miss U by Margaret Utinsky
Hurry up, only 1 item left in stock.
Margaret Utinsky was living in Manila with her husband, a U.S. Army engineer, when the Japanese invaded in 1942, and rather than surrender she assumed a false identity as a Lithuanian nurse to remain free. Under the code name Miss U, she built an underground network that smuggled food, medicine, and money to American POWs at Camps O'Donnell and Cabanatuan, work that continued even after the Japanese captured and tortured her for 32 days at Fort Santiago. She escaped to the mountains of Bataan to serve as a guerrilla nurse until liberation, and President Truman awarded her the Medal of Freedom in 1946 for her actions. The Naylor Company published her memoir in 1948.
