Management by Filipino Values by Tomas Andres
In stock
Management must be incarnated in the context of the culture, values, mores, and idiosyncracies of the people wherein it is applied and practised. In the Philippines, myridads of management systems have been transplanted from the West without adapting or modifying them to suit the Philippine conditions and the Filipinos' given behavior sentiments and values. But what the est and the highly industrialized Oriental countries are doing NOW in managment may be what Filipinos in the Philippines should do LATER. There is, indeed, a compelling need for the indigenization and Filipinization of management if it is to have its enriching effectiveness to stimulate and achieve productivity in our organizations and establishments. There are four ways of contextualizing management in the Philippine setting. One way is by being a synchretizer, that is trying to harmonize Western management system with Filipino culture. The second way is by being an accomodator, that is, by selecting dood ideas and practices from other management systems and adapting them to Philippine purposes. A third approach is that of a situationist who seeks to contextualize Western management systems in relation to the living situation of the Filipino people at a crucial time. Finally, there is the approach of an oriented, relating management systems to the actual issues Filipino management practitioners are facing today in the Philippines. The first approach is too compromising; the second and third are attractive, but the fourth is the most recommendable approach. This book is an answer to a long-felt need by management practitioners, beginners, professors, students, and researchers for a book on management in the Philippine setting. -- Tomas Quintin D. Andres
