Intramuros of Memory by Jaime C. Laya and Esperanza B. Gatbonton
Hurry up, only 1 item left in stock.
Jaime C. Laya and Esperanza B. Gatbonton assembled this anthology of firsthand recollections and archival photographs documenting Intramuros, Manila's historic walled city, before its near-total destruction in the 1945 Battle of Manila. Founded in 1571 as the seat of Spanish colonial power in Asia, Intramuros once held the finest churches, government buildings, and private residences within its 4.5-kilometer stone walls; the book pairs photographs of that vanished splendor with images of the postwar ruins. The Ministry of Human Settlements and Intramuros Administration published the book in Manila in 1983, with an introduction by National Artist for Literature Nick Joaquin.
