Infamous Santo Tomas by Tressa R. Cates, R.N.
Hurry up, only 1 item left in stock.
Tressa Cates, a civilian nurse in Manila, spent what would have been her wedding day instead becoming a prisoner at Santo Tomas Internment Camp when the Japanese occupied the city. She kept a secret diary through her internment, hiding it in a nearby drainpipe rather than risk the punishment that would follow if guards found it, and used her nurse's eye to record the camp's rumors, propaganda, and mounting toll of starvation and inadequate medical care. First published as The Drainpipe Diary, the book was reissued as Infamous Santo Tomas, also covering the camp's liberation and the devastation of the Battle of Manila that followed. Pacific Press published this edition in 1981.
