Ginlawan begins with Humadapnon venturing out to the open seas again with Dumalapdap to help the latter seek a more suitable marriage match. During their long absence, Taghoy the duwende decides to stir things up by plotting with Paglambuhan and his son, Sumagulong, to steal Nagmalitong Yawa from Humadapnon. Sumagulong successfully convinces Mali’s relatives and a wedding feast immediately follows. In the middle of the festivities, Humadapnon returns and conflict ensues, leading to Mali’s death. Remorseful, Humadapnon resurrects Mali and asks for Mali’s and her parents’ forgiveness. Due to shared feelings of resentment and disgrace, the couple separate in the end.
Ginlawan highlights the intricate social dynamics of the Panay-Bukidnon society, particularly in honoring the tuos or contract or arrangement between concerned parties and the justifiable observance of ginlawan or public punishment when the tuos is violated. This volume showcases the value of honor, loyalty, and justice, especially among couples.
