Natápos sulátin ni Giovanni Boccaccio (1313-1375) ang Dekameron noong 1353 na isang paggunita sa malagim na epidemyang “Kamatayang Itim” na sumaklot sa Europa noong 1348. Tinapos naman ni National Artist Virgilio S. Almario ang unang salin sa Filipino ng Dekameron nitóng Nobyembre 2020 sa gitna ng pandemyang covid-19. Sa pamamagitan ng kaniyang salin ay nais ipaalaala ni V.S. Almario ang isang dakilang akda na nalikha sa kabilâ ng malubhang kalamidad na dinanas ng táo, gayundin ang kadakilaan ng imahinasyon upang umigpaw sa pusod ng dalamhati at mangarap ng bagong luwalhati para sa táo.
Para sa Italia, ang Dekameron ang tugatog ng kadakilaan ni Boccaccio at ambag niya sa pagbukad ng panitikan at wikang Firenze (kahanay nina Dante at Petrarch) tungo sa pambansang wika at panitikang Italiano. Para sa Europa, ang Dekameron ang isang malusog na bitling mula sa Panahong Midyibal tungo sa Panahon ng Renasimyento. Ang mga kadakilaang ito ng Dekameron ang nais isalin ni V.S. Almario para pakinabangan ng wika at panitikang Filipino tungo sa muling-pagkatha ng bagong Filipinas.
