About the book:
This volume brings together all of Cristina Pantoja Hidalgo’s short fiction. Written over a period of almost 50 years, it showcases the originality, variety, and depth of her art. Complete Stories & Tales includes stories published in her separate, award-winning short story collections, and tales embedded in two of her novels. Jose Dalisay, Jr., much awarded novelist and short story writer, writes: “Reading Cristina Pantoja Hidalgo’s stories is much like listening to gentle rain, with a soothing cadence that both comforts but also evokes sad and painful memories of a class and a sensibility—indeed an ag —between the very rich and very poor, the very old and the very young, when beliefs and convictions mattered and often came at a price. If there is ‘soft power’ in politics, Hidalgo wields it in her fiction, in her assured and graceful prose.”
Chuckberry Pascual, who has translated four of Hidalgo’s story collections into Filipino, writes: “Sa kabuuan, maaaring ilarawan ang mga akda ni Hidalgo bilang makabayan, makababae, at eksperimental.
