Dr. Hubert and Harriet Reynolds did their extensive research on the Chinese in Ilocos in the early fifties first as their thesis for graduate school.
They updated the data in the early sixties and submitted their work to fulfill the requirements for a doctorate degree in philosophy in 1964.
The two-volume dissertation was compressed inot one book by consolidating the introduction, description of how the study was done, background information on Ilocos and the ethnic Chinese community and the bibliography.
This book is published in memory of Hubert and Harriet Reynodls and Kaisa hopes that the book will inspire others to continue expanding the wealth of reseasrch and other studies on the Tsinoys community in the Philippines.
