Captive Community: Life in a Japanese Internment Camp, 1941-1945 by Fern Harrington Miles
Hurry up, only 1 item left in stock.
Fern Harrington Miles was an American missionary who had sought safety in Baguio when war with Japan seemed likely, only to hear the first Japanese bombs fall on nearby Camp John Hay on December 8, 1941. Interned along with roughly 500 other American and British civilians, she spent three years at Camp Holmes before a risky trek across central Luzon to Bilibid Prison in Manila and eventual liberation. Rather than focus on the war itself, Miles writes about the ordinary internees, from missionaries to businesspeople, who built a working community under extraordinary conditions.
