A Playlist for the End of the World
In stock
Gabriela Lee’s second collection of fourteen stories follows the rhythm of imagined realms, reaching back to the past and pushing forward into the future. A mix of science fiction, fantasy, and everything in between, A Playlist for the End of the World is a dirge for the words that came before us, and a hopeful melody for the worlds yet to come.
“An unforgettable collection of intricate worlds aflame with magic, technology, and post-apocalyptic grief. With deft craftsmanship, Gabriela Lee populates her fevered landscapes with complex young women and men grappling with the structures they inherited. Headstrong and heartbroken, they carve out their destinies from their own ashes, blurring the lines between curse and gift, nightmare and dream, death and life.”
—Anna Felicia Sanchez, author of How to Pacify a Distraught Infant: Stories
“Gabriela Lee’s stories draw you in—poignant, quirky, dark, and so beautiful. Grounded in Filipino beliefs and observations about how people relate to one another, the writing pulls at your heart and leaves you immersed in the worlds. From magic realism to science fiction, this collection is simply brilliant.”
—Joyce Chng, author of Water into Wine
“Gabriela Lee’s work initially seems simply sweet and lovely, but quickly reveals—sometimes breathtakingly, sometimes brutally, sometimes both ways—the brilliant complexity within. This is a can’t-miss collection.”
—Nikki Alfar, author of WonderLust: Stories
