Ken Fuller’s A Movement Divided traces the Philippine Communist Party (PKP) from 1957 to the fall of the Marcos regime in 1986, documenting three party congresses and two major splits — most notably the 1968 formation of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) under Jose Maria Sison, and the 1972 “Marxist-Leninist Group” schism. Fuller argues that the PKP’s analysis of the Marcos regime has been overshadowed by the CPP-NPA’s ascendant Maoist line, and draws on party documents and interviews to recover this contested history of the Philippine left.
